For some photographers, the end result is all that counts. However, for Chelsea Kenny, it is as much about the process as it is the final product. Chelsea loves creating and inspiring other women to pursue their dream careers and helps them visually create the look and feel of their brand.
‘’At first, it was to capture photos of my children and the children in their class. But all the while I felt called, as I had my whole life, to do something different. So I dove into the world of photography in a big way.’’ Chelsea Kenny
Having started Rosebud Photography only 4 years ago, Chelsea Kenny has certainly made a name for herself quickly. Her imagery departs from that of the usual, focusing more on the powerful aspects of business branding. We had the opportunity to chat with Chelsea the photographer, mother and creative entrepreneur to discover what makes her mind tick and the aspects of life that keep her creativity flowing.
Tell us about Rosebud Photography, what makes it so unique?
I designed Rosebud Photography to be an alternative to the run-of-the-mill photography experiences you may have had in the past.
I’ve created a membership-styled program for all business owners/entrepreneurs who are looking to UP their visual content game and always have fresh new imagery for their brand. With each photoshoot, you’ll find that your ideas are respected and our process of creating is going to give you something all your own.
What motivated you to start your company?
Growing up with a performing arts background in dance, I’ve always been driven by the creative process and wanted to continue the arts in some form. Once I picked up my first camera after having my second daughter, I just knew this was my new path.
Becoming a mom to 3 girls has been my biggest motivation. To be able to show them that they are capable of anything they set their minds to is something that I try to instill in them as often as I can. Starting my photography business at 33 was proof that you can shoot your shot and be successful at any age!
Who are your ideal customers and why?
My ideal clients are entrepreneurs who are open to creating visuals that will stand out from the average social media feed.
I strive to bring out my clients’ best selves and personalities with every image I take.
How has the business grown to be where it is now? What has contributed to your success?
I started photographing children/families in my small town and knew I needed to grow and branch out into the business world.
I started photographing for the networking franchise @babesinbusinessnj
and through that amazing woman-owned platform my business has taken off.
What inspires you and your design choices?
Learning about my clients and their aesthetics sets my creativity off running. I look up to the great Annie Leibovitz and Danny Clinch for photography Inspo and for style, I idolize the stunning Audrey Hepburn and colorful Kate Spade.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced since becoming an entrepreneur?
As most entrepreneurs know. This is not a 9-5 job. Every day is a different challenge.
Learning that I’m not for everyone and everyone is not for me has been a hard but very rewarding lesson.
What are your current areas of focus?
My current areas of focus are business branding, editorial and portrait photography.
What sacrifices have you had to make during life?
Becoming a mother at 17 years old has taught me that life is unpredictable. Sacrifices are what molds you. It humbles you and helps you appreciate the things that most people take for granted.
What is the toughest decision you had to make in the last few months?
Deciding to really focus mainly on my VIB Membership service was a tough decision because with that I’ve had to turn away photoshoot opportunities that didn’t fit the direction I am heading.
Tell us about your proudest achievement?
Aside from my 3 beautiful daughters, my proudest achievement is getting to watch my little ‘BUD’ of a business flourish into a successful photography journey that I can’t wait to wake up to every single day.
