Write your vision down and refer to it frequently to ensure you and your team’s efforts align with your goals. This is the best way to ensure your money and time are always appropriately distributed.
Step 2: Create a List of No
Now that you have a clear idea of what you are going to do, it is time to make a list of the things that you are not going to do. I call this, The List of NO. This list is to help curve your natural instinct to try to be Superwoman.
Complete this sentence: “My time is better spent doing blank.” What you put in this blank goes on your List of NO. Repeat until you run out of tasks. make sure grouping similar tasks. At the end of this exercise, you’ll have the task list and a clear idea of the types of positions you need to fill.
Step 3: Network Nonstop
With your list in hand, start going where the people you want to work with go. Go to their events, buy their products, support them, get their attention. Next, introduce yourself and your brand and share your story.
Bring business cards! It’s also a great idea to have all your social media handles memorized so any person of interest can contact you. Always get their information so you can keep in contact with them as well.
Don’t forget to dress professionally. Humans are very visual beings. The more you fit your prospects’ idea of a successful entrepreneur the more memorable your first impression will be.
Step 4: Be persistent
If the people you are after are successful in their field you’ll have to be flexible. Your prospects may not respond to your emails at first. You may have to reschedule your meetings and your prospects may need some convincing before they decide to join your team.
This is where your well-articulated mission statement and your List of NO will come to your rescue. You’ll be able to answer their questions, calm their concerns and explain in detail what tasks they’ll need to complete. Immediately, your prospects will identify you as an organized and professional leader making it very hard for them to dismiss your offer. Persistence and organization are the keys to successfully assembling a team.
