Have you ever had a moment where you feel like you’ve lost motivation? Maybe something tragic happened in your life, or something that was apart of your dream plans went the wrong way? We have all been there and done that. Read on ‘Ever Feel Like Everyone Has Their Sh*t Together And You’re a Mess?’
After I graduated, I went to Georgia and my motivation was sky high! Then all of sudden, everything went left. I was supposed to be an in-state resident for free tuition. Last minute the administration office told me that I wasn’t qualified for in-state tuition because my parents didn’t live in Georgia for longer than a year. Can you imagine how I felt?
Even though this seems all good, something was still missing
I had to make a decision if I was going to be one of those college students who will struggle in school. Nope! I told myself that this is my life and I know that I’m going to disappoint some of the people in my life, but this is my life. Two days before college started for me, I left Georgia. I decided to take the semester off from school. I went to New York and worked at a daycare to save some money for myself. Even though this seems all good, something was still missing.
For two weeks I laid in the bed every day and wasted days doing nothing. I scrolled on social media looking at other people’s lives and becoming more and more depressed with my own life. I lost my drive and motivation. Fighting depression is not easy, especially during the business process!
Here are the steps I took to fight my own depression which helped me to become the young entrepreneur I am today with three of my very own businesses.
Ever Feel Like Everyone Has Their Sh*t Together And You’re a Mess?
Step 1: Getting Up
This is the beginning of the fight. You have to force yourself up. You cannot lay there and sink in your own problems because it will never help you get better. I realized that lying there every day was only making me more miserable and making the problem linger longer.
Step 2: Asking For Help
My mom always told me, “a closed mouth doesn’t get fed” and “no one can help you if you don’t help yourself”. This is so true because how can someone help you if you don’t ask? People are not mind readers and they don’t know what you’re going through if you stay silent. I had to ask my mom for help to find different schools that fit my interests.
Step 3: Self Evaluation
Sometimes in life, we look at others and have so much to say before we speak on ourselves. This part is called self-evaluation. Look at yourself and think about what could be changed about yourself that will make progress in your life.
Step 4: Trust The Process
THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP! We are all impatient in our own little ways. Trust the process! Once you figure out what business you want to create and how you want to make your brand, you have to trust the process. You won’t make money overnight, and your business won’t become a million dollar company in one night either. Great things take time. Take a deep breath and continue to do great things no matter how long it may seem like it will take.
Step 5: Make It Happen
Write down ideas. Talk to close friends about your ideas. Build your social media profile. Go online and educate yourself. Buy business cards. NETWORK! BRAND YOURSELF! You are your number one supporter!
Moral of the story is, don’t ever think that because you hit an obstacle in life it should be over. Entrepreneurs hit obstacles all the time. Every obstacle is the drive for the next steps into your life to start your business and become your own boss Always believe that you can be great no matter what life may throw at you.
