As a creative person, Ami Shah knew marketing was her true calling. Ami always knew that eventually, she would want to be in the definition of ‘being your own boss’; combining her passion for marketing with her need for independence and a goal to support female entrepreneurs led to the start of Marketing Hues.
Marketing Hues has helped companies strategize and implement their creative visions. Our growing Marketing Agency is driven by passionate thinkers who work closely with each brand to create strategies that produce unparalleled results. Marketing Hues loves content and design but thrives on the data necessary to succeed in a digital world.
Ami Shah came up with Marketing Hues to show the world the true colours of Marketing – what she means by that is in today’s digital world everyone claims to be a marketer when in reality they don’t even truly know the meaning of real marketing.
Tom Fishburne – a successful marketing cartoonist nicely put it down in his quote “The best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing.” And that is what we follow.
Tell us more about Marketing Hues, who are your clients, what are they looking for?
Marketing Hues is a customer-focused digital marketing agency with a vision for impact. As a female entrepreneur, I understand the difficulties we face. We claim to be an all-female digital agency catering to a majority of female clientele! To amplify the impact we even offer female entrepreneurs an additional 20% discount on our services. To describe the clients, they are small to medium sized businesses owned by aspiring female entrepreneurs looking for marketing support without costing them a fortune.
Tell us what you do as the owner?
I think as an owner, you end up taking every role your business demands – from an accountant, salesperson, customer support, manager or talent acquisition! This is in addition to managing a 12+ team and catering to clients.
What are marketing mistakes companies make?
Not listening to your audience is a grave mistake most companies make. A stellar example are companies in the fashion industry who earlier refused to cater to a diverse audience. Today, the audience is more aware and thus, these companies end up losing their relevance. Second big mistake many businesses make is not understanding the importance of good branding.
How do you track your marketing success?
Marketing has different KPIs however, to give you an overview, client and team feedback as well as introspection are my benchmarks for tracking success after every project.
What have you learned most from entrepreneurship?
I have learnt accountability. At the end of the day, there is no one you can blame but yourself. You remain solely responsible for everything you do – which is daunting but incredibly liberating.
What is a skill you think all women should learn and why?
Managing finances is something all women should learn. Managing money is an art and becomes very rewarding when you want to start your dream business or take a vacation to the Bahamas!
You’re currently writing a book, can you tell us what this will be about?
It would definitely be about my journey as an entrepreneur and my influences. From being an introverted girl growing up, to running a digital marketing agency while managing a demanding full-time job. I would aim at motivating the females out there planning to become their own boss.
What is the one advice that has impacted you the most?
My husband has been the constant throughout my journey. I receive a flow of “best” advice from him. “Never take things personally, look at them from a neutral standpoint. Be an optimist and keep going.”
What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
In the initial stages of Marketing Hues, the team within slacked and ended up affecting the work negatively. I learnt leadership throughout the process and even became a better manager later building an incredible remote team from scratch. Now we have 12+ team members with impeccable work outputs.
