Mainly, you shouldn’t think of your nervousness as if there is something wrong with you. Being shy is not a flaw in your personality. However, when it starts bothering you and preventing you from having an enjoyable experiences and successful professional performance, it may be time to start working on it. Here are 5 Steps To Overcome Public Speaking Anxiety:

5 Steps To Overcome Public Speaking Anxiety

1 Accept Your Emotions

If you are anxious around people and it starts to annoy you, be honest with yourself and try to identify the root cause of it. It’s actually called glossophobia and according to PSYCOM, it “may arise because of a combination of genetic tendencies and other environmental, biological, and psychological factors.” You should know that it’s quite common and there’s a way out.

The first step is becoming aware of your emotions and accepting them. There’s no need to feel ashamed. In fact, anxiety can actually be a sign of a healthy personality. Changing how you think about your feelings can help you overcome them and open up in new situations. Think about what’s causing you to feel this way. Is it something that happened to you in the past or you believe you were born this way? Once you’ve identified the problem, take steps to overcome it by practicing positive self-talk and not being too hard on yourself. Once you’ve identified the reason, accept the way you feel, imagine what your life can look like when you finally can release anxiety and take the necessary steps to do that.

2 Take a Speaking class

Public speaking can be a daunting task for many of us. Taking a class can help make the experience a lot less nerve-wracking. Classes teach you tips and techniques that will make your speaking experience easier. In addition, they provide practice so you can get comfortable on stage. Finally, you should be looking at it as an investment of your cash, and your time and efforts. You are doing it, so you can live your life to the fullest and what’s better than that? Taking a class can tremendously boost your confidence and performance.

There are options for both in-person and online classes. Not only will you be able to sharpen up your speaking skills, but you’ll also receive valuable feedback that can help you reach your full potential. If you’re going for the in-person route, make sure to find a class that matches your location and schedule. On the other hand, if you’re looking for an online class, search for one that suits your needs and interests.

Love Public Speaking is a great examples of a public speaking classes provider. They offer courses for businesses, schools and individuals. They are well-prepared in shifting your mindset and the way you feel about speaking in front of crowds. That goes to show us there are many people out there who need this kind of help and support. So cheer up, you’re not alone. In fact, even their founder, Carrie Swift  had struggled with the fear of public speaking. But she didn’t let that stop her being a leader in the space.

Either way, speaking classes are a great way to improve your public speaking skills. They provide valuable feedback that can help you overcome anxiety and furthermore, fine-tune your speeches.

Additionally, they offer a sense of community that can be very helpful. Sharing the experience with others who are going through the same thing can help you feel supported and more confident.

3 Don’t Be Perfect

Perfectionism isn’t healthy. In fact, many people are stuck in a never-ending cycle of trying to be perfect, and they ultimately give up. Instead of striving for an impossible standard, let go of the need to be flawless and instead, embrace your quirks. They make you who you are. And it’s ok to be the beautiful imperfect You.

We all come with our own unique strengths and weaknesses. Instead of striving for the impossible, embrace your pecualiarities. Trying to be perfect will only lead to frustration because you can never get there.

Perfectionism is the enemy of happiness. It’s, in fact, a mental disorder that makes us obsessed with achieving impossible standards, and it ultimately destroys our self-esteem. Instead, you should be proud of your achievements and take the time to celebrate them! This way, you’ll be able to live a normal life without feeling stressed out and bogged down by self-doubt. Everyone makes mistakes occasionally. So, just roll with the punches and enjoy life – imperfect but happy!

4 Be Prepared

Public speaking anxiety can make social interactions difficult, and presentations feel dreadful. So, whenever you must speak in public, take the time to get ready and feel prepared to smash that presentation (in a good way.)

Make sure to have a deep knowledge and understanding of the subject you will be talking about. Be prepared for questions and discussion. When you know your stuff, you will be confident and anxiety can disappear when you start speaking.

Practice your speech or presentation once or twice. If you can do it in front of a friend or a family member, that can be a great way to warm up.

Following the same process every time can help gradually get rid of your anxiety and even end up enjoying speaking in front of audience. Especially, when it’s something you are passionate about. Finally, remember that by speaking up, you are not only helping yourself, but others too.

5 Face Your Fears

The best way to get better at anything is to practice it repeatedly. And that goes for anything from cooking a complex meal to memorizing facts for an exam! The more you practice, the better you’ll get. When you work on something repetitively, your brain becomes better at it and is less likely to go back to being anxious about it.

So practice whenever you can. Start deliberately putting yourself in situations where you need to speak in front of people. It may be scary at first. But you’ll find it get easier every time you do it. So put in the effort, and reap the rewards – youll be amazed at how quickly you progress and how much you can achieve!

Public speaking anxiety can be a real hurdle when it comes to socializing, speaking and taking on new challenges. But don’t despair! It’s easier to overcome it than you think. Just do it!

Changing what you don’t particularly like about your personality comes with the decision. Once you’ve made it, don’t be too hard on yourself. Take good care and practice encouraging self-talk. Celebrate small wins and try to shift your mindset. Always assume people will find what you have to say useful and helpful. Be genuine and authentic. And know that you’ll never be everyone’s cup of tea and vice versa. Enjoy the process and be your only competitor striving to be better than yesterday. You can do it!
